Our Origin and Legacy

Editorial Cuadernos de Sofía was founded in 2014 by Juan Guillermo Estay Sepúlveda, a researcher, history, and geography professor whose work and legacy continue to guide us today. We are proud and committed to advancing his vision of making academic publishing accessible to scholars worldwide.

Juan Guillermo passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Following his death, our editorial team, technical staff, designers, and administration faced an uncertain path as our commitments to authors began to falter. Domain registrations were expiring, numerous inquiries went unanswered, and urgent questions remained unresolved. It was for this reason that we made the collective decision to assume full responsibility for the editorial operations and embarked on a mission to honor the dedication and consistent work established by our founder.

Our Commitment to Continuity

After several months of reorganization, we achieved our first major milestone: responding to all our authors and readers. We continue to fulfill outstanding commitments to our partners, having established payment agreements to strengthen our collaborative relationships.

We formally incorporated as Editorial Cuadernos de Sofía SPA, a process requiring extensive regulatory compliance and standardization. Remarkably, everything came together seamlessly within just two weeks—an outcome that felt like providence itself.

  • Timely responses to our authors
  • Clear and concise communication
  • Absolute respect for author autonomy

Our Commitment: Democratizing Academic Publishing

We define ourselves as a boutique academic publishing house dedicated to authors who demand rigor without bureaucracy. We reject the corporate model of large publishers to deliver what truly matters: complete transparency, personalized attention, and agile publishing. We work to democratize academic publishing, ensuring researchers retain full control of their work and publish within 6-12 meses without compromising academic standards. We are the bridge between quality researchers and global audiences, operating from the conviction that academic knowledge should be accessible to those who create it, not only to those who can afford it.

Looking to the Future

The story of Editorial Cuadernos de Sofía is just beginning. With over a decade of accumulated experience and a team dedicated to excellence, we continue innovating in publishing technology and expanding our international presence—always faithful to Juan Guillermo’s legacy and his vision of democratizing access to academic knowledge.
